Accepting Donations
Customers may donate new or gently used books, DVDs, videos and CDs to any of the Friends of the Library groups. The Friends cannot accept magazines, encyclopedias, Readers Digest condensed books, or any materials in poor condition. Refer customers to other options for donating these materials.
If a customer has a large number of items to donate you may assist them by bringing a book cart to their vehicle. This is not mandatory and is at your discretion. Items should be placed in the Friends of the Library donation area for later sorting. After donating materials, give the customer a Gift Receipt to complete. Make a copy of the receipt, giving one to the customer and send the second copy to the Business Office.
Cataloging Error
If you find an error in the catalog, fill out the Cataloging Problem Form and route the material with the slip attached to Technical Services. For digital catalog errors contact the eResources Librarian.
Collection Maintenance
In order to keep our collection up-to-date and attractive for customers, staff may request new materials, remove items in poor condition, transfer materials to other locations, and more. The Technical Services Sharepoint has lots of documentation to help you with collection maintenance.

eResources
eResources vendors are selected by the eResources Librarian in consultation with the systemwide Electronic Resources Team. Individual eBook and eMedia titles from most vendors are selected by the collection development selectors using criteria similar to that used for physical materials. Contact the eResources Librarian if there are questions.
Request for Reconsideration
Requests have been received at various times, by individuals or organizations, to remove or limit access to books, or other materials and information from the library, because in the requestor's opinion these materials or information resources were offensive or not seen as in alignment with community values.
Such requests require individual consideration as to the principle of free access to ideas and the setting of a precedent whereby books could be forced off the open shelves or informational programs restricted, resulting in a form of censorship.
Follow the Request for Reconsideration Procedure.
On-the-Fly Items
When a customer would like to check out materials that do not appear to have a record in the ILS, you should create an On-the-Fly record.
Check Out Procedure
- Add a green striped barcode to the item. Place the green striped barcode to the side or beneath the original barcode. Do not cover the original barcode.
- Check the item out to the customer.
Check In Procedure
- Scan the green striped barcode to the check in the item.
- Scan the original barcode to make sure the item has not been entered into the system.
- If the item is in the system, delete the green barcode and remove it from the item. Place the item on a shelving cart.
- If the item is still not in the system, give it to a librarian for review.
- Librarians will review the item and determine if it should be discarded or sent to Tech Services for re-encoding.
Selecting Items
Our library centrally selects materials for all of our locations. If you have a question about an item in the collection or see a gap in service, you may contact the selectors directly. Do not give out the contact information for the selectors to customers.
Customers and staff may request items to be added to the collection by using the online form. All requests will be reviewed, but may not be filled.
