The LJ Index of Public Library Service, sponsored by Baker & Taylor's Bibliostat, recognizes libraries nationwide based on the levels of service they provide per capita in four key areas:
- Circulation
- Program attendance
- Internet use and
- Visits
Round 2, announced in November 2009, was based on 2007 statistical data. SJPL also received a 4-star rating in the initial round based on 2006 statistical data.
