| Why Use Articles? |
|
Articles are especially valued in research for providing current information. They are relatively short in length and address more
specific topics than books. In addition, for some fields, journal articles are the most important place where information is reported
and shared. Find more information on the strengths and limitations of articles for research.

Use a database or periodical index to identify which articles have been written on different topics. Sometimes, the database will
give you the full text of the article - other times, you'll get enough information to track it down from another source (such as the print
copy in the Library). Use the SJSU Subject Guides to learn which database would be best for your topic. If you are only able to
get a citation or abstract for a journal article through one of our databases, take note of the journal title from the citation and consult
our Step-By-Step Instructions on how to check on whether we have the journal issue you need in the library. Or, go to the databases page now.
