Finding High-quality
Early Care and Education
You can find quality early care and education in child care centers
and in family child care homes. While all quality programs may not
look alike, you should look for specific elements to help you identify
high-quality programs. Print a copy of the Smart Start San José
Program Quality Standards poster in either English,
Spanish, and/or
Vietnamese.

Lifelong Achievement Begins with Quality Early Care and Education
|
Quality early care and education
programs prepare children, not only for school, but also for lifelong
social and emotional success. Children who participate in quality
early care and education programs do better in school, plus have a
greater chance of graduating from high school, getting a job, and/or
going on to higher education.

Smart Start San José
not only helps expand the availability of quality early care and education
(child care) experiences, it can also help families and caregivers
meet the high cost of services by raising the awareness of financial
incentives and tax credits. Early care and education is the second-highest
expense in the family budget according to the California Budget Project
2003 report. But families can claim up to 42% of eligible child care
expenses when filing Federal and State Taxes.
Find out if you qualify
for tax credits, and how to find tax
advice to help you take advantage of available credits.
