Early Care and Education Commission
Purpose and Duties
San José Early Care and Education (formerly Child Care) Commission was formed in 1989 to address the need for establishing and improving child care facilities and early educational development.
A main goal of the Commission has always been to streamline and deregulate the process for implementing the growth of early care and education programs in the city of San José and neighboring sectors.
The San José Early Care and Education Commission advocates on behalf of young children, their families, and their early childhood educators and family child care providers.
It accomplishes this by advising the San José Mayor, City Council, and City Department Heads on all issues related to children and families in early care and education programs.
As a thirteen member-body, the San José Early Care and Education Commission represents various sectors of the community.
It works with the Office of the Mayor, City Council, and the Library's Early Care and Education Services office to oversee the implementation of Investment in the Future - San José's Early Care and Education Strategic Work Plan.
The Commission makes recommendations to expand and improve the quality of early care and education services in San José.
This is accomplished through working with the community-based organization, the County of Santa Clara, school districts and businesses.
