How do I become eligible for library services?

To be eligible for library services, you must have a University ID number and a Library PIN number.
- Your SJSU ID is no longer your social security number. You will receive an SJSU ID when you register.
- You assign your own Library PIN number.
- If you have trouble creating your PIN, email Randy Anderson.

Will I have to visit the library?

No, You can get articles and some books electronically or have
them delivered to you. After your have obtained your Library PIN,
you can access our electronic databases, catalog and e-book
collection remotely.

Is there any charge for distance education students to get books and articles?
|
|
No, the only charges you may incur are the expense of mailing back books
you have received from the Library or any fines you accrue.
|
Is there any limit to the number of items I may request?
|
|
No.

I am having trouble with my Library PIN number. What should I try to resolve the problem?

Where can I get the Username/Password to access the Library online databases?

First you must have a Library PIN number, which you can create online.
To get database passwords, go to the Databases A-Z page and click on the Get Password (SJSU Only) link
next to the database you would like to use. You will then see the passwords for all databases.

How can I obtain help with my research?
|
|
Questions related to specific research topics should be directed to
the Library Subject Liaison. A list of the subject specialists can be
found here, sorted by subject specialty.

How do I obtain an article from a journal that is not available through the Library resources?

To find journal articles, use our databases, which allow you to search for articles on a given topic. All of the library's periodical databases are available from off-campus. Many of these databases provide full-text articles. If full text is not available, you may request the article through
Interlibrary Services.
Distance Learners may request Interlibrary Services articles from journals that the Library subscribes to as well as from journals that the Library does not subscribe to.
Be sure to specify Distance Learner as your Campus Status
when you fill out the ILLiad form for journal articles.

What is the procedure for checking out books?

Distance Learners may check out books through ILL that the SJSU Library owns
as well as books owned by other libraries.
Fill out an ILLiad form for books
and be sure to specify Distance Learner as you Campus Status.
The books will be mailed to you.

How do I renew my Interlibrary Services book?

Can books borrowed through Interlibrary Services be mailed back?
|
Yes. The Library pays for sending the book to you but you
must pay the return postage. Mail the book to:

How do I check out books from other California State University
campuses?

Simply go to the nearest CSU library with your verification of
enrollment. If they have any questions, have them contact Randy Anderson.

How do I use Link+ remotely when I am affiliated with the Library as my "home library"?
|
Use Link+ to borrow San Jose State library books if you are
physically near one of the California State University Link+ partners:
- CSU Fullerton
- CSU Hayward
- CSU Long Beach
- Cal Poly Pomona
- Cal Poly San Luis Obispo
- San Francisco State
- San Diego State
- Sonoma State
Use LINK+ by going to the closest university listed above and
registering as a Consortium Patron. You must have verification of
enrollment to register as a Consortium Patron.

How do I pay for library fines remotely?

For fines accrued at the Library, send a personal check made
out to the San Jose Library to:

Fines accrued on your consortium account at another library must be
paid at that library.
