Equipment & Software
SJSU Student Computer Service (SCS) provides eligible SJSU borrowers with laptop equipment and software for use inside the King Library. You can also read more about printing and laptop use at King Library to determine where you can plug in and print.
The following equipment may be available:
HP Compaq nx6110 and nx9010 Notebook and Compaq Tablet PC TC1000 computers with:
- Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access
- Browsers Firefox, Internet Explorer and Netscape
- SPSS
All computers have common browser plugins installed and offer wireless or wired network capability.
Notes:
Computers must be connected to a wired SJSU Laptop Connection to print.
All computers have USB ports, only the nx9010's have floppy disc drives.
The nx6110's have DVD/CD drives and the nx9010's have CD ROM drives. Both types of drives are restricted to read-only capability; executable files may not be run from DVD or CD discs.

Borrowing Terms & Conditions
Equipment is available for loan during regular King Library operating hours, may be checked out for up to four hours at a time, and must be returned no later than one hour prior to regular closing time.
Equipment loans are subject to availability and contingent on the borrower's acceptance of terms and conditions including the following:
- The borrower accepts complete financial responsibility for the laptop and any accessories borrowed. The borrower will reimburse San José State University for the repair or replacement costs for the laptop and/or accessories if lost, stolen, or intentionally damaged while checked out in the borrower's name.
- The borrower understands the full replacement cost for the laptop is $1600, the loan period is four hours or less, depending on the time the laptop is checked out, and overdue fines are $10.00 per hour or fraction thereof. These fines will continue to accrue until the laptop is returned or the full replacement cost is reached.
- Saving work regularly to floppy disc or USB device is the borrower's responsibility. Although the SCS will make every effort to maintain properly functioning equipment, the SCS accepts no responsibility for lost or damaged electronic information or personal storage media.
- The borrower agrees to comply with all applicable SJSU and King Library policies regarding acceptable computer use including using the laptop inside the library buiding unless there is an emergency evacuation, keeping the laptop attended at all times, making sure the attached network cable remains intact, and refraining from consuming food and drink while using the laptop.
