The Ascent of George Washington: the Hidden Political Genius of an American Icon

The Ascent of George Washington: the Hidden Political Genius of an American Icon by John Ferling
I cannot tell a lie: I liked this biography of the “father of our country.” The book is somewhat long as it covers Washington’s entire life, but this is an excellent read. Washington was not born with the advantages of other “founding fathers.” Yet this book goes on to detail how the young Washington — deprived of the wealth associated with land ownership and not fortunate enough to be the recipient of an expensive education — got started on a path which led him eventually to become a first-rate general, an excellent politician and the first, and precedent-setting, President of the U.S.
