Eyes on the Sky
A celebration of the International Year of Astronomy

Poster of an adult holding hands with a child against a starry background with the words The Universe Yours To Discover, International Year of Astronomy 2009 Turn your eyes skyward and reawaken your curiosity about the world beyond terra firma. Whet your appetite in October with a series lunar-themed programs for the entire family. Then join us on Tuesday, November 17 at noon, when the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Library unveils never-before-seen multi-wavelength images of deep space produced in collaboration by NASA’s Great Observatories — the Hubble Space Telescope, Spitzer Space Telescope, and Chandra X-Ray Observatory.

The International Year of Astronomy Great Observatories Image Unveiling is made possible by special funding from NASA’s Science Mission Directorate. The project is a collaboration between the Space Telescope Science Institute, the Spitzer Science Center and the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics.

The image unveiling takes place in the King Library’s Fourth Street Lobby and will be followed on Saturday, November 21, with a day of discovery activities for all ages, including lectures by faculty from the SJSU Physics and Astronomy Deptartment. Our celebration is co-sponsored by the Friends of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Library. Return to this page for future updates. For more information, call (408) 808-2397.
