print thisPrint This

Statement of Policy & Text
The library is part of the public environment and therefore, non-commercial filming and/or photography is permissible so long as it does not interfere with library operations or users’ rights to privacy. Individual seeking to do photography or filming for commercial purposes are referred to PL_285 Filming and Photography Shoots in the King Library. Photography designed to record a visit or make use of the library setting as a backdrop is generally permitted, provided that such activity avoids capturing identifiable likenesses of individuals without their permission.

The Library accepts no liability for the use of photos or film resulting from this activity. Individuals who take photographs or film are asked to honor requests to not be included in photos or film. The one exception would be those instances where it is required for a legitimate news story. Photos of minors are prohibited without the permission of their parent or guardian. In all instances, disruption of the environment shall be cause for an individual’s eviction from the premises for the remainder of the day.

Need for the Policy
Maintaining an environment that encourages the free and open pursuit of knowledge is essential to achieving the library’s mission. News-gathering representatives, including student journalists, and library visitors have legitimate reasons for wishing to obtain film and/or video footage. This policy provides parameters for photographic and filming activity in order to preserve the rights of library users to use library services without intrusion or fear of negative repercussions.

Requirements & Guidelines
General Public, including Students:

  • Individuals wishing to take photos or film of the building and/or inanimate objects for personal use only may do so without special permission as long as no special equipment or unusual circumstances are involved. • Individuals wishing to take photos or film that may include people other than those in their party are asked to contact the Reception Desk (Administration, 4th Floor) during regular business hours to obtain guidelines and an authorization form prior to commencing that activity. (Business hours are Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.). This form should be kept on-person and produced if requested on the day of photography or filming.
