The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Library provides the following designated areas for research and other library uses:
Silent Area: Floor 7 is reserved for silent library use.
No conversation is permitted.
Use of Cellular Telephones is prohibited in Quiet and Silent areas.
Quiet Area: Floors 6 & 8 are designated for patrons to work and study with low-level, minimal conversation.
Use of Cellular Telephones is prohibited in Quiet and Silent areas.
No Cellular Telephone conversations. Phones must be on vibrate/silent, including cellular telephone conversations.
Need for the Policy
Some patrons come to the Library specifically to do serious research and need quiet or silent areas to concentrate on their work. The King Library has a strong commitment to provide patrons with a variety of research and library use spaces.
A clear description is needed for the requirements and locations of the Silent and Quiet Group floors.
Requirements & Guidelines
In this policy "silent" means no conversation while "quiet" refers to low- level, minimal conversation.
Library users are expected to respect the needs of one another and observe the Silent and Quiet restrictions of floors 6, 7 and 8.
Proper signs and displays are provided to clearly explain the purpose and location of the designated areas.
