Internet Access Policy Review - San José Public Library

A proposal (PDF) has been brought before the Rules and Open Government Committee of the City Council recommending modification of the Library's current Internet Access Policy and In-House Rules to require Internet filters on all library computers, systemwide.

San José Public Library is committed to responsible use of the Internet as a valuable source of information for all users, including children. The safety and security of San José Public Library users is a top priority. Responsibility for safe use of the San José Public Library and its resources is a cooperative effort among users, parents and library staff.

Library staff proposed a framework for undertaking the policy review on this topic, which would allow for research into the effectiveness of current filtering technology and opportunity for public comment. Findings will be presented to the Rules and Open Government Committee this spring on a date to be announced.
