Part of the joy and excitement of being an educator is watching the students soar. The students featured here follow a rich tradition of excellence in photojournalism here at San Jose State University.Brandon Chew, Randy Vazquez, James Tensuan, Kevin Johnson, Raphael Kluzniok and Ramone Farrier, are amazingly, talented students with promising futures. In just a few years, I’ve seen them mature into extraordinary visual storytellers. Some of them have already won prestigious national and regional photojournalism awards, and have interned at major newspapers in the Bay Area and across the country. Two of these students were with me in Cuba in January 2012, as part of a “Classroom on Wheels” winter session class. Each student brings a unique style, eye, perspective and approach to capturing the essence of the subject’s character.
