You Can Represent Your Community

  • As with many areas around the nation, this region that is so rich in diversity requires librarians who are culturally competent, understand how to respond to residents' varied needs and can provide culturally appropriate services for immigrants who are transitioning to U.S. culture.

  • Librarians who represent these cultures are ideal ambassadors, taking a leadership role in reaching out to the community and designing services that are truly relevant to the population's wide-ranging needs.

Librarians from traditionally underserved groups bring a diversity of backgrounds to the library profession, creating richer programs for all library users.
