On-site Café Opens at Almaden Library & Community Center
The Oasis Café Expands to a Second Library Branch
March 8, 2008 -
The scent of freshly perked coffee filled the air Saturday (March 8) alerting visitors of the Almaden Library and Community Center to the opening of the on-site coffee shop, The Oasis Café.
The Oasis Café will serve a full range of coffee drinks and fruit drinks along with a variety of other bottled drinks. It will also carry specialty bakery items; sandwiches and other snacks. The library offers lounge seating and study tables at which to relax and enjoy that quality coffee or smoothie, and free WiFi access for those who like to multitask. The Almaden café site is the fifth to open under the library's "Coffee in the Library" program, supporting San José Public Library's overall efforts to enhance customer service.
Expansion of library facilities under the $212 million branch development bond approved by voters in November 2000 has provided the opportunity to fully transform San José’s libraries from the traditional "book storehouse" model to active community centers where residents can fulfill their information needs, select a DVD for the weekend, enjoy a cup of coffee, relax and catch up on local news with their neighbors — all in one stop.
Almaden Library and Community Center is located at 6445 Camden Avenue in San José. The new café, located in the lobby in front of the Tiny Town entrance, will be open for service during library hours. The new café represents an expansion of service for owners Emad and Astabrik (Star) Yahya, who have operated The Oasis Café at nearby Vineland Branch Library since 2006.
