The City of San José and San José Public Library celebrate the Month of the Young Child on Saturday, April 28, 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. at Discovery Meadow by hosting the 19th Annual San José Children's Faire, "Watch Me Grow!" Children and their families will have the opportunity to join in free activities, enjoy live entertainment and find out about community programs for young children. The Faire will be held in front of the Children's Discovery Museum off Woz Way in downtown San José. Admission is free.

The goal of this event is three-fold: to celebrate the remarkable stages of development of young children, to recognize programs and organizations that support young children and their families, and to provide resources to parents (see partial list of participating organizations below).

"There are an estimated 350,164 children under the age of 13 in Santa Clara County, and the parent or primary caregiver for many of them may lack basic information about child development," says Dawn Perry, program manager for Early Care and Education at San José Public Library, which administers Books for Little Hands and Smart Start San José, in addition to sponsoring the annual Children's Faire. "Our event helps them to connect with the services that support young children in a fun and supportive, family-oriented environment."

City and Library staff, as well as early care and education providers will be on hand to discuss the local impact of important early childhood education issues and offer families community resources.

Presentation of the annual Children's Faire is made possible, in part, through grants from the City of San José with additional sponsorship provided by: First 5 Santa Clara County, Santa Clara County Office of Education and Santa Clara Family Health Plan. In-kind sponsorship is provided by the Center for Employment Training, Children's Discovery Museum, Community Child Care Council of Santa Clara County, Inc. (4C Council), Kidango and PAEYC (Peninsula Association for the Education of Young Children).
