Four South Bay libraries will offer one-hour
seminars in April intended to demystify the legal process and empower
residents to access available legal resources. "Help Yourself
to Legal Information @ Your Library" seminars will be held
every Wednesday in April at 7:00 p.m., free of charge.
Attorneys and administrators from LawHelpCA (Public Interest Clearinghouse)
and the Superior Courts of both Santa Clara and the San Mateo County
will introduce tools, resources and links for legal information
in the areas most needed by self-represented litigants, including
bankruptcy, guardianship, landlord-tenant rights, and Small Claims
Court.
"There is a high demand for legal information," says
Sylvia Baker, chair of the Adult Service Committee of the Silicon
Valley Library System. People who request such information typically
cannot afford a lawyer, prefer to handle matters themselves or simply
want to better understand the process. "While the library
cannot offer legal advice, we can connect people with resources
that they can utilize themselves."

Clara County Superior Court's Self Service Center

Mateo Superior Court's EZ Legal File
