Peace Poem Contest Winners Announced

The winners of the Children of Peace Poem Contest and the Teen Peace Poem Contest were awarded prizes at the World Peace Concert at the King Library on October 23. Four judges from the education and literary fields selected first, second, and third place winners from the 116 poems that were submitted. In addition, each judge selected one "honorable mention". Thank you to everyone who entered the contests. All who submitted a poem may pick up a certificate of participation at their branch library starting Nov. 1.

Teen Contest Winners:
1st Place: "Untangle" by Linda Wong, 11th grade
2nd Place: "Not Alone" by Vanessa Gentry, 11th grade
3rd place: "The Fall" by Phi Nguyen, 12th grade

Teen Honorable Mentions:
"Through the Thicket" by Mai Nguyen, 11th grade
"Peaceful Food" by Amannda Fregoso, 8th grade
"Peace of Mind" by Kevin Michisaki, 9th grade
"A World of Despair" by Adriana Swancy, 8th grade

Children's Contest Winners:
1st place: "Infinite Peace" by Jeffrey Zhang, 5th grade
2nd place: "Red Blood Gray Bullets" by Eric Rudawski, 5th grade
3rd place: "World Peace" by Hannah Kim, 3rd grade

Children's Honorable Mentions:
"World Peace is My Poem" by Mike Pettway, 5th grade
"Untitled" (acoustic) by Sorayah Zahir, 3rd grade
"World Peace" by Timmy Ngo, 4th grade
"Peace" by Nysia-Haillie Welsh, 3rd grade
