Read Month and Art Contest

October is Teen Read Month at San José Public Library.
All branches and the King Library downtown take this opportunity
to remind you that reading can be a fun and relaxing activity
when you make the choice; not least because it's free when you
use your public library! There's so much more to choose from these
days, whether you prefer to read books, magazines or paperbacks.
And don't forget, we also offer videos, DVDs, audio books and
CDs. Stop by any library
location to find out how to get a free library card. Need

Take note of the following special activities and contact your
local branch or the King Library for more details:
Teen Art Contest: October 19
- November 1
All teens in Grades 6-12 are invited to submit an
entry to this year's Teen Art Contest. Create original art (traditional
or electronic) illustrating the theme "Slammin' @ your
library." Art must fit the dimensions 6.5" wide
by 10" high. No clip art or copyrighted images may be used.
First, second and third place gift certificates will be awarded
at both the middle school and high school level. "Best of show"
entry will be used to promote library activities during National
Poetry Month in April. Submit your entry at any San José
Public Library starting October 19 and no later than 6 p.m. on Saturday,
November 1.
San
José Earthquakes Landon Donovan - In Person: October 26
Landon Donovan, Earthquakes Forward and Honda Player of the Year
2002 & 2003, makes a special appearance at the King Library
in honor of Teen Read Month. Donovan will make a brief presentation,
then field your questions. Everyone attending the event will receive
a free Donovan READ bookmark and the opportunity to have it autographed
by the player, himself. Don't miss this special event: Sunday,
October 26, 2 p.m. - Meeting Suite 225-229, 2nd floor, King Library
