Friends of the Library Book Sale at West Valley Branch
Books galore! We'll have children's, adult, and teen books; picture books, computer books, books in languages other than English; books about gardening, cookbooks, and romance novels; and any other category you can imagine. Friends of the Library get first dibs from 9am to 10am, and the sale opens to the general public at 10am. After 2pm, every bag of books you fill is only $2. All proceeds go to the Friends of the West Valley Library, who generously support the library's programs and collections.

Lecture with Local Author Ellen Sussman
Join us for a special evening as we welcome local author Ellen Sussman for a talk entitled "Finding Truth in Writing; Fiction of Non-Fiction." Ms. Sussman is the author of the 2004 novel On a Night Like This, and edited the 2007 title Bad Girls: 26 Writers Misbehave. It's a special opportunity to listen to a gifted and multi-talented writer talk about her craft and share some insights.

Lei Day Fun
Aloha! We're celebrating Lei Day at West Valley with a fun-filled Hawaiian-themed event. Listen to folk tales, music, and history from Hawaii, and participate in fun crafts, such as lei-making, shell decorating, petroglyph tracing, etc. You'll also learn a basic Hawaiian dance. Fun for the whole family. Come and join us!

Music and Motion
Music and rhythm are important building blocks for reading readiness. This program will demonstrate several props young people can use to experience music in different ways. The emphasis will be on having fun, and activities are geared to children ages 2-5. This workshop will be combined with the regular Saturday Morning Story Time.

Healthy Snacks for Kids & Parents
Join us as we demonstrate and share healthy snack ideas for kids and parents. Kids and their parents are invited to participate in the snack preparation (and snack eating!). Fun for all ages. Presented by the West Valley teensReach volunteer group, and sponsored by the Friends of the West Valley Library.

Summer Volunteer Orientation for Teens
Hey teens ages 13-17! Looking for something fun to do this summer? Help out your community and be a summer volunteer at West Valley Library! We need volunteers to help us from June 14-August 9 with our annual Summer Reading Celebration. To apply, please pick up a Summer Volunteer packet at the desk and return your completed application. Volunteers must attend the 1-hour training orientation on Tuesday, May 27 at 5:00 PM OR Saturday, June 7 at 1:00 PM. For more information, call Katherine at (408) 244-4766.

Game On! Teen Gaming Party
Teens ages 12-18, please join us for our monthly gaming party! We'll be playing Nintendo Wii and Guitar Hero, and we'll also have board games and snacks. You can also enter our mini-tournament for a chance to win prizes! A different game is selected each month.

Do you have probing questions for the Presidential candidates about their stance on women's issues? Do you know how the Presidential candidates are addressing some of the most important issues affecting you and your family? Ask their local representatives at a panel discussion PLUS Hear about launching successful campaigns and training for future leaders from Christine Pelosi, author of ‘Campaign Boot Camp’ Learn about local training opportunities for succeeding in civic engagement and leadership positions. Come ask your questions!
