Profile

West Valley Branch originally opened on March 8, 1964 after a 1957 bond measure provided funds for construction of three new city libraries. In Fall 2001, construction began on a new facility to triple the size of the old library.

The new West Valley Branch, opened in early 2003, is a warm and inviting place where you can visit with friends and neighbors, read to your children, or relax by the fireplace in the community living room. The new branch dramatically improves library services while serving a diverse population of more than 50,000 residents. Features include seating for over 150 library users, a community room for 209 visitors, a technology center and computers to serve more than 30 patrons throughout the library, language collections to serve our diverse local populace, a separate storytelling space for children, and generous parking for over 60 vehicles.

Our library offers an array of regular programming in the form of weekly story times, Internet tutoring sessions, a conversation club for ESL learners, and a monthly book club for adult readers, as well as regularly scheduled clubs and fun events for our young adult and juvenile population. In addition to regularly scheduled programs, we frequently host unique programming opportunities in an effort to provide a variety of special events to our public.

West Valley Library has held a firm place in the community of West San Jose for the over 40 years it has been operating and intends on continuing in this tradition of community service.
