My Dog Said What? Animal Safety & Communication
Did you know that you can tell a lot about what an animal is feeling by watching the way his body moves? In "My Dog Said What?" attendees will become experts in animal body language and practice strategies for staying safe and being respectful around animals. Children, teens, and families are welcome and encouraged to attend this unique opportunity to learn how to communicate more harmoniously with the family pet. Learn from the expertise of the Silicon Valley Humane Society (whether you already have a pet or are simply thinking about getting one) and meet a great dog!

Meet the Maasai: An Interactive Cultural Experience
This is an unusual opportunity to learn first-hand about another culture and to support the nonprofit works of an organization that works hard to increase the educational opportunities of the Maasai (particularly for female children). Tribe members (who travel to this county only a couple of weeks per year) will lead a general discussion of Africa and compare and contrast a day in the life of a Maasai and that of an audience member. Natural storytellers, the Maasai will detail their rites of passage. The event may include learning a few words in Maasai or Swahili and the significance of traditional clothing. Demonstrations may include how to tie a shuka (on a volunteer) and the application of traditional red ocher warrior paint to the faces of those present. Vocalizations of animal calls and bow and arrow techniques will also be shared. Local crafts and jewelry will be shared. Words cannot accurately express how interesting this program is—suitable for all ages and especially helpful for seventh and tenth graders studying World History. Join us and feed your curiosity about the world!
