Safe Steps will be presenting important safety information for parents concentrating on what to look out for around the home, car and water. Did you know children can and do fall out of window openings just over 4 inches wide? Most drownings of young children occur while the child is being supervised? Children can die from heat in cars when the temperature outside is only 60 degrees Fahrenheit? Each family will receive a valuable FREE safety kit from the Safe Steps program.

Come and join us to experience the wonderful performance of Steve Lin at Tully library. Steve Lin has performed for audiences throughout the United States, Taiwan, and Italy. He is versatile musician in both solo and ensemble and maintains an extensive repertoire, spanning from Renaissance to the Romantic. He has received many prizes at major competitions, including Boston GuitarFest, East Carolina University Guitar Society Competition. He has appeared at many guitar festivals, including Yale Guitar Extravaganza, L’Accademia, Musicale Chigiana, etc.

Our training is on the third Thursday of the month from 3-5 PM. This program requires your attendance on Thursdays from 4-5 PM. We do have a general teen volunteer orientation and training on the Third Wednesday of the month from 6:00-7:55 PM. The teen general volunteer program is a little more flexible and will work around your schedule.

A Taste of Vietnam
May is Asian Pacific Heritage Month. In honor of this, the San José Public Library System will be hosting Vietnamese cultural programs for youth in collaboration with San José / Evergreen Community College District. Tully Library will feature the program, "A Taste of Vietnam". Come and explore the Vietnamese culture and taste a bit of Vietnamese refreshments. The youths will especially enjoy the challenge of answering questions that they have learned about their culture and the opportunity to enter a drawing to win prizes.

This program complements a traveling exhibit from the Smithsonian Museum titled 'Exit Saigon, Enter Little Saigon" that is on display to June 1 at the San José City College, Student Center Building, Community Room SC204. This exhibit was created by the Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Program to tell the story of the Vietnamese-American experience in America, from the significant influx in 1975 to the present. It explores the themes of challenge, contribution and change, emphasizing the vibrant diversity of the Vietnamese-American community. Take in the free exhibit: Mondays through Wednesdays 10 AM to 4 PM, Thursdays 10 AM to 8 PM, and Saturdays 10 AM to 2PM. Free parking at the Moorpark and Leigh Ave parking structure on the 4th floor.

The workshop is designed to provide information to qualifying families on how to acquire low-interest family loans up to $4000 for vehicle purchases and $750 for repairs. The workshop will also provide financial literacy education on the following topics: Buying/Financing a car, Understanding/Improving your credit, what are loans/credit, Understanding banking and Personal budgeting.
