Highway 101 (South or Northbound): Take Highway 101 to the Highway 280 North interchange. Take Highway 280 North to the 11th Street exit. Turn right onto 11th St., heading north. Turn left onto E. San Fernando. The library is on the left at the intersection of Fourth and E. San Fernando Streets. You may enter the Fourth St. Garage on the right.

From South San José: (During detour) Take Highway 87 North to the Highway 280 South interchange. Take Highway 280 South to the 10th St. exit. Cross over 10th St. to 11th St. and turn left onto 11th St., heading north. Turn left onto E. San Fernando. The library is on the left at the intersection of Fourth and E. San Fernando Streets. You may enter the Fourth St. Garage on the right.

From North San José: (During detour) Take Highway 87 South to the Julian St. exit, and turn left. Turn right at 6th St., then right onto E. San Fernando. The library is on the left at the intersection of Fourth and E. San Fernando Streets. You may enter the Fourth St. Garage on the right.

Highway 280 (Southbound): Get off Highway 280 at the 10th St. exit. Cross over 10th St. to 11th St. and turn left onto 11th St., heading north. Turn left onto E. San Fernando. The library is on the left at the intersection of Fourth and E. San Fernando Streets. You may enter the Fourth St. Garage on the right.

Highway 280 (Northbound): Get off Highway 280 at the 11th Street exit. Turn right onto 11th St., heading north. Turn left onto E. San Fernando. The library is on the left at the intersection of Fourth and E. San Fernando Streets. You may enter the Fourth St. Garage on the right.

Automobiles: Convenient parking is available at the Fourth Street Garage across from the library on E. San Fernando St.
DAYS before 6:00 PM: Weekday parking is fee-based; 75¢ for every 20 minutes, with a $15 maximum. Weekend days and holidays are free.
EVENINGS after 6:00 PM: The first hour is free, but otherwise a $2 flat rate applies to cars entering after 6:00 PM, seven nights a week. Beginning on January 2, 2009 the flat rate will be $3.

Alternative FREE parking - subject to change - is available at the 4th & St. John Garage across from City Hall; Monday - Friday, 6:00 PM - 10:00 PM; weekends and holidays, 6:00 AM - 10:00 PM. Access from N. 4th or N. 5th Street. Check out other parking options in downtown San José or call (408) 535-3850.

Bicycles: Bike racks are located on South Fourth St. near E. San Fernando St.

Public Transportation

Bus Route 11, Route 22, Route 23, Route 64 and Route 522 run along Santa Clara Streets, stopping at either 4th or 7th Streets. The library is about a one-block walk to the south.

Bus Route 63, Route 64, Route 72, Route 73, Route 81, and Highway 17 Express stop in front of the library near the corner of 4th and San Fernando Streets.

The DASH Shuttle stops across from the library on 4th Street.

Bus Route 23, Route 65, Route 66, Route 68, Route 72, Route 73, Route 82, Route 168, Route 180, Route 181, and Route 304 stop on 1st or 2nd Street at the Paseo de San Antonio or Santa Clara Street stops. The library is a short two or three block walk to the east.

The Monterey - San Jose Express (MST 55) stops at San Fernando and 5th Street. The library is one block walk to the west.

Light Rail: Both the Alum Rock to Santa Teresa line and the Winchester to Mountain View line stop close to the library. Exit at the Paseo de San Antonio Station on 1st or 2nd Street. The library is a short two or three block walk to the east.

From the San Jose Caltrain Station (Diridon) you can take Bus Route 63, Route 64, Route 65, Route 68, Route 168, Route 180, Route 181, Highway 17 Express or the DASH Shuttle to get to the library (See details above).
