Family Learning Center at Hillview Branch Library

The Family Learning Center at Hillview Branch Library offers families, new Americans and immigrants many educational and socio-cultural programs and services to help them transition easily in the language and culture of their new country.

Educational programs offered daily are English and Computer classes. English classes are held in the privacy of the FLC classroom and assist students with grammar, pronunciation, writing and speaking. Computer classes are suitable for beginners who have no experience using a computer. The computers are installed with interactive grammar, typing, and pronunciation software which are appropriate to different literacy levels and are self paced.

Bi-lingual books and media collections are available for checkout as well as textbooks being used in community adult education classrooms. The collections are updated and current to reflect the newest editions of textbooks.

The socio-cultural enrichment programs offered regularly are ESL bingo, movies, music and a listening lab to build conversational and social skills. FLC also helps students with their resume, prepare them for job interviews and job search skills. FLC staff is cognizant and trained to provide a quality program and encourages its patrons to utilize available library, school and community resources.

The Family Learning Center seeks partnerships with other community groups and agencies to provide additional programming.
