'What I Can Do for My Community' Essay Contest for Teens
The Friends of Edenvale Library are hosting an essay contest in honor of Edenvale's second birthday. $1,000 in cash prizes are available to participants. The topic is "What I Can Do for My Community" and the essay should be between 400 - 1,000 words. Please double space your essay and email it to FriendsOfTheEdenvaleLibrary@yahoo.com by Saturday, November 7th, 2009. Include your grade, school, parent's name, a phone number and an email address with your entry. To win, students must come and read their essays at the Edenvale Branch Library on Saturday, November 14, 2009. A panel of distinguished judges will choose winning speeches based on originality, thoughtfulness and effective speaking.

High School prizes are $400 for 1st prize, $200 for 2nd prize and $100 for 3rd prize. Middle Schoolers prizes are $150 for 1st prize, $100 for 2nd prize and $50 for 3rd prize. All finalists will receive Friends Bucks.

Find out how you will do on the SAT. This free, full-length practice SAT is given under simulated testing conditions. You'll learn about the endurance and skill needed to earn a strong score on the SAT. Most importantly, you'll receive a personalized score report from us at the follow-up Scores Back session a week later. Baby Sign Language gives parents the opportunity to communicate with their babies long before babies can verbalize their wants and needs. Research shows that signing with babies accelerates language acquisition, reduces frustration and aggressive behavior, and as children mature, results in a greater interest in reading. Attend this free workshop and learn how to start signing with your baby and also deepen the bond between you and your child. This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Edenvale Library.

Even children who are not reading enjoy telling their own storIes as they turn the pages of a favorite picture book! These dogs are social, gentle, smart, obedient and are great listeners!
