My World, My Community



Program Events

What is important to you?

What do you think is important to your community?
What do you want to tell the world about San José?

Express yourself by signing up for My World, My Community digital photography project and give us your thoughts and concerns of what is most important in your world!

What is it?

This is a free, 10-week digital photography and writing documentary project where teens will explore, investigate, and present their discoveries about Downtown San José. All equipment and materials necessary for this project will be provided by the library, thanks to the California Council for the Humanities.

Why should you do this?

  • Gives you a chance to tell the world what you think!
  • Earn Community Service Hours while having fun!
  • Add to your college portfolio!
  • Build leadership, computer, and presentation skills!
  • Learn photography basics!

Who can sign up?

  • San José teens between 13-18 years old
  • Willing to try new things and meet new people
  • Attend programs Wednesdays 2-4 pm at King Library from June 18th – August 20th

What happens after it’s over?

On August 30th, a celebration event will be held that will feature the photography and writing of all of the participants. Teens will also be featured on The California Council for the Humanities website.

If you are interested in participating, please email: howiseeitkinglibrary@gmail.com with your name, age and phone number. The project organizer will get in touch with you.
